When the owners of this 60’ motor yacht set about planning what they wanted in their next cruiser certain items had to be met to satisfy the brief. Strength, economy and exceptional seaworthiness, as well as interior and exterior space and the ability to be used privately as a family.
Nereus was custom designed by naval architect John Pugh to Lloyds A100 Classification (2B & 1D) but has never been used commercially. Her hull is constructed in 5mm steel plate, wheelhouse in aluminium, and her interior custom fitted out with hand crafted Mahogany furnishings from bow to stern. She is ideal for long range remote cruising and has journeyed frequently to The Great Barrier Reef, Lord Howe Island and Tasmania from her home port of Sydney. Underway a pair of 6LX Gardner engines purr away quietly and provide a cruise speed of 10 knots. With a fuel capacity of 5,430 litres, at this speed she has a range of 1,500nm. Nereus has been serviced by Gary Bryant & Sons from new.
Stepping onboard the swim platform you walk up onto the aft deck via a set of stairs. This is a great area for entertaining, watching the yacht racing or enjoying a meal with the family. The flybridge deck covers approximately half of this space so you can also cast a line or enjoy some time sitting in the sun in the cooler months. Epoxy glued teak decks feature on the main and flybridge decks and exterior of the vessel is two-pack painted. From the aft deck you can move up onto the flybridge, head to the foredeck (via the port or starboard side decks) or enter the saloon.
Walking into the saloon from the aft deck you’ll see solid mahogany furnishings, leather upholstery and a practical and functional layout. Large opening windows flood the saloon with light. The galley is in the forward end of this space and features modern electric appliances and an open plan layout so the chef can still be included in the conversation. There is direct access from the saloon into an elevated wheelhouse which has a well laid out helm, skippers chair and settee for the crew to keep you company. From here you can also access the flybridge and the Portuguese bridge from either side of the helm.
When entertaining or cruising in fine conditions the flybridge certainly provides a fantastic view and plenty of space for family and friends. There’s built in seating, a bimini to provide shade and the RIB tender is stowed on the aft deck awning.
The lower deck of Nereus is divided into three areas with the walk-in engine room directly below the saloon floor. Aft of the engine room bulkhead are two cabins, including the full width owners’ cabin which features a double and single berth and loads of storage. There is also a full bathroom aft and a guest’s cabin with two single berths. Forward of the engine room are an additional two guest’s cabins and a guest’s bathroom. In total there 9 berths onboard.
Entering the engine room via a watertight door you’ll find 2 beautifully maintained Gardner engines that can be serviced easily with space around the inboard and outboard sides and full head height above. The Gardner’s have done approximately 2,650 hours since being installed. The engine room is also home to an Aqua-Volt generator, inverters, battery chargers, batteries and the Cruisair air conditioning units. As well as the 5,430 litre fuel capacity, Nereus also holds 5,400 litres of water and has a sullage capacity of 1,831 litres. Below the waterline Nereus has a full keel, protecting the large rudders and three blade propellers.
Proving to be a very reliable, comfortable and safe long range motor yacht, Nereus has been a much-loved part of her owner’s family since being launched. The time has come for her to continue cruising with a new set of custodians who will benefit greatly from the way that she has been maintained from new. A private inspection is available in Sydney by appointment. Please contact our office for further details.
